Golden Bytes!

A Nutrition Education and eHealth Literacy Program for Community-Dwelling Older Adults living in Rural New Jersey

The Elmer Library is proud to announce our partnership with Rowan University for a new Senior program: Golden Bytes, a Technology Training and Nutrition Education Community-Based Research Program for Adults 60+!

 

Prior to joining your first class you must attend a pre-enrollment session here at the library with availability starting May 22nd! Classes will begin on June 3rd, 2025 and participants can then sign up on a rolling basis, with sessions being held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11 am-12pm and 12-1pm.

 

Are you interested in volunteering to participate in a community-based research program to better understand how to use technology to manage your nutrition and health?

 

Are you interested in learning more about nutrition and how to use technology in general?

 

Are you 60 years or older and have access to a smartphone or tablet?

 

Then you would be a great candidate for our community-based research program, GoldenBytes!

 

Potential benefits of this research study are learning more about healthy eating patterns to improve your food intake, learning how to manage your food intake, using technology, and improving your overall comfort using technology in your everyday life!

 

As a volunteer participant, you will attend small group sessions led by Rowan University’s nutrition students. Multiple sessions will be offered twice a week at Elmer Library and Millville Public Library.

 

Each session is about 1 hour and participants enrolled in the GoldenBytes program are asked to attend 10 sessions

total.

 

Before the start of the GoldenBytes program and within 2 weeks after completing the program, participants will complete surveys and have their height and weight measured. These data collection sessions will be about 30 minutes each. As a result, participants would attend 12 sessions total at one of the following locations:

 

Millville Public Library

210 Buck St, Millville, NJ 08332

 

Elmer Library

120 S Main St, Elmer, NJ 08318

 

Participation in this research study includes compensation in the form of a $50 gift card after their 5th session and a $50 gift card after their 10th session.
